Contribuição ao estudo do bócio congênito nos bezerros no estado de Minas Gerais

The author describes some cases of congenital goiter observed in calves at the State of Minas Gerais. The study of these cases includes the first observations at the State; symptoms, course, mortality: microscopical and clinical diag- nosis; prognostic; treatment; outbreak: cause; profilaxis. Finally the author presents the following conclusions.
1) The disease has been observed frequently in the regions where the pastures and the waler are deficient in iodine.
2) The disease was controlled by the administration of a balanced mineral supplied to the cow in pregnancy.
3) The calves affected show general weakness and stunted growth.
4) The mortality observed never reached ten per cent.
5) There was not observed neither abortus nor premature born.
6) There was not observed the disease in adult animals.
7) The treatment by the iodine tinture applied under friction weekly in the sub laringeana region of the affected calves shows efficiency in 100 per cent of the cases.
