Ensaio sobre sistemas de plantio da mandioca

Resumo

Two systems of planting of cassava were compared in fine textured soil (so-called “massapê”):

1 — Sets of 40 cm length, planted vertically. The lower 10 cm were placed into the soil.

2 — Sets of 20cm length, planted horizontally, 10 cm deep in the soil (the prevailing practice).

The data obtained permit the following conclusions under the conditions of this experiment:

1 — Treatment 1 gave a yield increase of about 30% over treatment 2.

2 — The cassava roots in treatment 1 penetrated about 5 cm deeper than those of treatment 2.

3 — The distribution of the root system is different in the two treatments (see fig. 1, 2 and 3).

4 — The harvest is easier in the case of treatment 2 (prevailing practice).
