The action of three independently inherited genes (T vs. t, RSt vs. R (or r)and v lae vs. v) on flower, pod and seed color was studied in crosses s of two varieties of Phaseolus vulgaris: "Manteigao Fosco 11" and "Três Cores 106".
The recessive allele of T is responsible for wpartiali coloration of the seed (fig. 3) and absence of flower coloration (white flower).Gene Rˢᵗ is responsible for striping of the seed (fig. 1) and marbling of the pod (fig. 2). When T is recessive, Rˢᵗ is not expressed in the pod. With T, the alleles vˡᵃᵉ and v produce pink and white flowers, respectively. The m. rbling of pods caused by Rˢᵗ is red because of the presence of vˡᵃᵉ or v,
The proposed genotypes for 'Manteigao Fosco 11' and 'Trés Cores 106' are TT RR (or rr) yy and tt Rˢᵗ Rˢᵗ vˡᵃᵉvˡᵃᵉ, respectively.
