Resumo

This study has as its objective the analysis and definition of the structure of supply for pineapple in Paraíba and of the response of production to variations in price.

An awareness of the factors which determine supply will permit some degree of control by the organs of agricultural policy over the production of pineapple in the State of Paraíba.

This study has as its objective the analysis and definition of the structure of supply for pineapple in Paraiba and of the response of production to variations in price.

With time series data for the period 1947/1970 a model of distributed lags was devised, using the method of least squares.

Among the main conclusions are the followings:

.the production levels of pineapple in Paraiba are 95% explained by variation in prices, pluviometric precipitation and time;

.the price-elasticities of supply in the short and long run are 0,73 and 1.43, respectively;

.the influence of pluviometric precipitation on production levels is measured by a coefficient of approximately 0.36, indicating that variations of 107 from the average level of precipitation lead to a variation of 3,67 in production, ceteris paribus; and

.estimates could be very useful in predicting levels of productions, so as to permit the taking of certain anticipatory measures designed to reduce marketing problems.
