Índice de colheita de alguns cultivares de feijão (Phaseolus vulgaris L)

The harvest index of edible bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars was determined in one variety test and two fertilizer experiments at Viçosa, Minas Gerais. This index is the proportion of seed weight to total weight, consisting of the stems, pod walls, a few leaves, the residual root system and seeds, of the plants harvested.
Index values ranged from 39.1 to 57.6% for the 23 cultivars in the test. In one of the fertilizer experiments, using six cultivars, the index varied from 33.8 to 40.5%. But the index for the seven cultivars in the second fertilizer experiment ranged from 29.9 to 56.5%.
Fertilization influenced the harvest indexes. In one fertilizer experiment, the application of 40 kg/ha of N lowered the index from 50.4 to 37.4%, while in the other the index went from 38.1 to 35.5%. Phosphate fertilization affected only one of the experiments, with the 75 kg/ha of P05 rate giving an index of 38.2% and the 0 and 150 kg/ha rates an index of 36.4%.
