Determinação da época adequada de colheita do feijão (Phaseolus vulgaris L) com base na qualidade fisiológica das sementes

Experiments were carried out in Viçosa to determine the optimal harvest time for the bean (Phaseolus wvulgaris L.) variety 'Rico 23'. Physiological quality of the seeds was used as the basis for this determination.
Seventy two days after emergence of the bean plants, seeds were harvested at 48 hour intervals. Physiological quality was determinated through the following tests: accelerated aging, first count germination and germination. Seed performance was also studied under field conditions.
Laboratory and field results showed that the period between 82 and 98 days after emergence is indicated for seed harvest. In this period the seeds showed the maximum physiological quality, declining considerably afterward.
The first count germination test applied according to the International Rules of Seed Analysis was not efficient in the determination of seed vigor
