Determinantes técnico-sociológicos associados à produtividade de leite em dois municípios de Minas Gerais

The purposes of the present study were: first, to test the differences in productivity (litros/vaca/ano) between the two municípios studied; secondly to determine the association of productivity and the technological, sociopsichological and communication variables; thirdly determine the causal relationship between productivity and the independent variables (technological, sociopsichological and communication variables).
The municípios were selected by the criterium of having different levels of economic development. The farmers in such municípios were chosen by random sample procedures, among those of 20 to 200 hectares of land.
The analysis used were the «t» test to examine test differences between the means of productivity in the two municípios, simple correlations to determine the association between productivity and technological, sociopsichological and communication variables and multiple regression to determine the causal relationship of productivity and the independent variables on productivity.
The municípios differed significantly in productivity. The technological variables related to the sanitary care of the cattle associated significantly with productivity in the less developed município. On the other hand the technological, variables related to feeding and breeding associated significantly in the most developed município.
The variables selected for the regression model explained 60 per cent of the variance in productivity in the less developed municipio and 68 per cent in the more developed one.
