Algumas informações sobre as sementes de feijão utilizadas na Zona da Mata, Minas Gerais

Three hundred iy eight bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) samples were collected in 28 counties of the «Zona da Mata» area, state of Minas Gerais. It was found that they represented the following types: black (46.5%), large seeds of different colors (17.4%), brown (10.9%), purple (8.6%), red (7.1%), buff (5.6%), and others (3.9%). To produce them, at least 90.6% of the farmers had used their own seeds. Most of the farmers (59.1%) declared that they have been using the same variety for 2 - 5 years. Only 16.0% of the samples were apparently pure lines; all the rest showed some degree of genotype mixture. Most of the mixtures (72.2%) had from 2 to 4 components. In 70.8% of the cases, the most important component represented more than 80% of the mixture, while the second most important component, in 75.1% of the cases, represented less than 20% of the mixture.
