The effects of water depth (2 — 4 — 6 mm/day) and irrigation frequency (1 — 2-—3 days) were studied on the fruit production of sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum, L.) c.v. ‘Cascadura Ikeda’ at Ponte Nova, State of Minas Gerais. The trickle irrigation system was used to supply water. Fruit production was correlated positively with water depth and negatively with irrigation frequency, while the opposite obtained with the percentage of dry matter. The mean weight of the fruits and the incidence of injured fruits did not differ with respect to either of the two water management treatments. However, the interaction of treatments greatly affected the thickness of the fruit wall. The thickness increased under conditions of low water depth and greater irrigation frequency, and decrease with high water depth and lesser irrigation frequency. The response curves derived for the fruit wall thickness were quadratic for water depth but linear for irrigation frequency.
