Abstract

In order to determine whether the spacing between rows affects the response of common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) to mineral fertilization, a factorial experiment was carried out at Vicosa, State of Minas Gerais, during the «rainy» and «dry» seasons. The factorial included 3 cultivars (‘Manteigao Fosco 11’, ‘Costa Rica’ and ‘Negrito 897') x 3 row spacings (40, 50 and 60 cm) x 3 levels of fertilization. It was found that the spacing had practically no effect on the fertilization results; only during the «rainy» season, at the lowest level of fertilization, was the spacing of 50 cm significantly better than 40 cm for the bean yield.
