Two plantings of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L., cv ‘Ricobaio’) were made, one during the dry season and one during the rainy, in an area of low soil fertility located 8 km south of the Agronomy Experimental Area of the Federal University of Viçosa. The research objective was to evaluate the relationships between levels of fertilization and crop damage by insect pests in an area treated with carbofuran. The crop life table method was used to record the sequential plant mortality from planting to harvest, and those data of the reproductive sequence. Data for production and productivity characteristics were subjected to conventional analysis of variance and cluster analysis.
