Cultivar de soja monte rico ('UFV-8')

‘Monte Rico', or ‘UFV-8’, is a new soybean cultivar, recommended for planting in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul within the range of 17°30' to 23°30" South Latitude. It originated from the cross (1AC-2' X ‘Hardee’) x ‘UFV-1’ and was tested under the denomination of UFV 7948, The method utilized in its breeding was the classical pedigree method. ‘Monte Rico' has white flowers, brown pubescence and pod, yellow seedcoat and cotyledons, light brown hilum, and determinate growth habit. It is a late maturing variety, has good seed quality, good plant architecture, and gond resistance to lodging and pod shattering. It is resistant to bacterial pustule and wildfire, but moderately susceptible to frogeye leaf spot and soybean mosaic virus. It shows good tolerance to downy mildew. Yields of ‘Monte Rico’ averaged 5.0% higher than ‘Cristalina’, 5.2% higher than ‘Savana’, 16.2% higher than ‘UFV-L', ard 16.6% higher than ‘Doko’ in 10 tests carried out in 1981/82 and 1982/83. Better results with this cultivar were obtained in plantings from October 20 to November 20, on soils of medium to high fertility, at populations of 400.000 plants per hectare, and with row spacings of 40 a 60 centimeters.
