Resumo

Moths of the genus Spodoptera appear worldwide. A number of species of this genus have been recognized as agricultural pests that cause damage to cereals, field crops, grasses and flowers. Investigations on Spodoptera’s sex pheromones have been carried out in order to use this pheromones to control this pest. To identify the sex pheromone, gas chromatography and combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry have been used. The major components identified were (2)-9-tetradecenyl acetate and (Z)-9, (E)- 12-tetradecadienyl acetate: The other components of the sex pheromone gland will be analysed for later identification.
