An experiment was installed in a greenhouse with the objective of studying the relationship phosphorus (inorganic and available fraction form) and the plant, in order to abtain data about plant growth, absorbed phosphorus and relative yield. These parameters were correlated with phosphorus levels before and after the millet (Setaria italica Beauv) harvest.
The experiment lasted one month. Samples of Dark Red Latossolo soil of medium texture, from the Triangulo Mineiro, were used.
The data obtained led to the following conclusions:
1. The maximum weight of the vegetative material was obtained when the quantity of phosphorus corresponding to the capacity of absorption was used.
2. Plant recovered 8 to 18% of the added phosphorus.
3. The relative yield of millet correlated well with rates of available phosphorus obtained with North Carolina ex tractor; the absorbed phosphorus was highly correlated with the avaiable phosphorus obtained with Bray 1 and Olsen extractors.
4. The weight the millet correlated with the P-Fe e fraction as measuvel before the planting, but it was the P-Al fraction that correlated best with the weight of the harvested material, its percentage of phosphorus and the absorbed phosphorus.
