II: Potencial de potássio e potássio trocável

Resumo

This is the second in a series of papers dealing with the forms of potassium in selected soils from the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The objetives was to study the potential and exchangeable forms of potassium and their relationship to available potassium and relative growth. In this study, the potential and exchangeable potassium were extracted using a 0.01 M calcium chloride solution and a 1 N (ph 7) ammonium acetate solution.

The data showed that the variation between the potential and exchangeable potassium is related to soil group. The potential potassium level was highest in the dark yellow latosol and lowest in the red-yellow latosol while the reverse was true for the exchangeable potassium.

The potential was correlated with the exchangeable and available potassium when soil group was ignored, but there was no significant correlation when analyzed by soil group.

The level of potential and exchangeable potassium were significantly correlated with relative plant growth, percent potassium in the plant and total potassium uptake by the plants.

The observed critical levels for the exchangeable and po- tential potassium were 51.5 ppm and 2.039, respectively.
