Estudo sobre enriquecimento de mata secundária, com seis espécies florestais

Resumo

The objective of this experiment conducted at Viçosa, Minas Gerais, was to test six forest species for enrichment planting in "high-graded" forest stands. 

The analysis of the increment and mortality rate of the six species yielded the following results:

a) "Peroba-rosa" (Aspidosperma polineurom) had the lowest mortality rate while '"gongalo-alves" (Astronium fraseinifolium) had the highest (Table 1);

b) "Sobragi" (Colubrina rufa) was the species with the highest average increment while "gonçalo alves" had the smallest (Table 3);

c) It is suspected that the high mortality rate and low average increment for "gonçalo alves" were caused by poor cultural treatments and management in the establishment phase of the experiment and, possibly, by unfavorable ecological conditions of the planting area;

d) The favorable results with "sobragi" (Tables 1 and 3), indicate that the species has good potential for rapid growth and development in the areas where the experimental plantations were established.

This study should be followed by a series of similar investigations testing other species, in order to provide foresters with better information for future enrichment programs.
