An investigation was conducted to evaluate the chemical woods and specific gravity of the 20 most common (volume/ha) in the Zona da Mata of the state of Minas Gerais. Two trees of each species were sampled and chemical analyses were performed according to ABCP standards.
The results of this study indicated that the following species due to their promising techmical characteristics and economically significant volume are of primary interest and warrant further pulping studies: farinha seca (Cassia verrucosa Vog.), cedrinho (Tapirira peckoltiana Engl.), arati- cum (dnnona sericea Dunal.), jacaré (Piptadenia communis Benth), angico branco (Piptadenia celubrina Benth), canudo-de- pito (Mabea fistulifera Mart.) e garapa (dpuleia leiocarpa (Vog.) Macbr.).
