Resumo

Tn order to determine the extent of genetic variability in aluminum tolerance within the brachytic-2 maize variety ‘Piranao’, 144 progenies were produced according to Comstock and Robinson’s design I. Progenies were evaluated in greenhouse trials with two replications. In each replication, seeds of each progeny were sown in pots containing 1.8 kg of soil with a phosphorus content of 3.52 ppm and aluminum saturation index of 49%. Twelve days after planting, seedlings were thinned, leaving seven per pot. On the thirty-fith day after planting, the experiment was harvested and roots, and aerial parts of the plants were separated. These were dried and weighed in order to evaluate production of dry matter.
