In this study the effects of pregermination and three methods of sowing true potato seeds were evaluated. Pregerminated and nonpregerminated seeds were sowed in the following ways: directly on hills of soil, on hills mixed with about 100 ml of animal manure and in plastic cups with approximately 50 ml capacity filled with a mixture of soil, sand and manure as a substrate, and transplanted later. Plant performance in the field showed ample variation among treatments. The best results were obtained from plants in plastic recipients and transplanted. The poorest results were those from plants sown directly either preor nonpregerminated seeds, an indication that this method is inviable.
