Resumen

Five rough lemon varieties are studied in this. paper, the Florida rough lemon, the Cravo lemon or Rangpur lime and three Brazilian varieties: the Deodoro, Nacional and Limeira rough lemons. It was taken the fruit characteristics, bud color and seedlings behavior mainly regarding to some Citrus diseases such as scab, tristeza, stem-pitting and exocortis.

It was found definite differences among the rough lemon studied being the Florida rough-lemon the typical variety. It is suggested the inclusion of the Cravo lemon in the rough lemon group due to its susceptibility to scab and to the pink color of the buds what makes it almost impossible to be a mandarin x lime hybrid or a mandarin x lime hybrid or a acid lime as suggested by Weber and Batchelor (9).

The Florida rough lemon is indicated as a possible rootstock to replace the Cravo lemon universally used in the Fluminense-Carioca Citrus section in Brazil, because they are very similar as far as adaptability is concerned being the Florida rough lemon possibly tolerant to exocortis disease.

The Deodoro rough lemon is reported to be susceptible to the tristeza virus disease when budded to Pera and Lima sweet oranges, as well as to Mexican lime, not to Villafranca lemon and lately to Willow leaf mandarin.
