Resumo

Six yield trials were carried out in Ponte Nova, MG, .to verify the behavior of 12 cultivars of rice beans. Trials were installed on the following dates: March 18, April 16, April 30, August 4, November 17, and December l9. Fifteen to twenty seeds were planted in rows 0.5 m apart. Sprinkler irrigation and insecticide were used when necessary. Rice beans took 6-9 days to emerge from soil. Life cycles (emergence to harvest) varied from 82 (December 19) to 121 days (April 30). No foliar disease was observed on the plants. Average trial yields ranged from 1,234 {December 19} to 1,993 kg/ha (March 18). Yields over 2,000 kg/ha were attained only in trials installed on March 18 and April 30. Maximum yield was achieved with cultivar E-37 (2,276 kg/ha) in the April 30 trial. In general, cultivar yields were similar. Average 100-seed weight of cultivara varied from 6.9 to 9.0 g.
