Sape grass, Imperata brasiliensis, is a pasture weed whose control is rather difficult because of its rhizomatous characteristics.
In the present experiment a randomized complete block design withthree rephcates was utilized to study the feasibility of controling the sapc by means of agronomic methods, such as simulated plowing, seeding of gordura grass, planting of pangola grass and fertilization
The data indicated that by plowing under the soil it is possible to obtain a reasonable control of the sapé, but additional control can be achieved by promoting competition by means of seeding or planting forage species.
Inthe present study, the seeding of gordura grass was rather effective in further reducing the density of sapé. but the planting of pangola grass failed to show any such reduction.
