Análise econômica da produção de arroz, Itumbiara, Goiás, 1966/67

The work presented here is directed toward identifying the current use of agricultural resourses for rice production in the municipio (county) of Itumbiara, which is located in the geographical zone "Meia Ponte" in the state of Goias, and includes ananalusis of the efficiency with which these resources are being used. The results are compared to those obtained by GOMEZ (4) in the same zone.
ata collected in 1967 for 10 municipios in Goias in- cluding Itumbiara, were used for this purpose. The data were obtained by the survey method of GOMEZ (4).
The Cobb-Douglas production function was utilized for this analysis, and was adjusted by the least-squares method. The resulting equation was:

Y = investment inphysicalproduction, in 60g sacks
X1 = investment in land for rice production, in hectares
X2 = investment in hand labor, in days of sevice
X3 = investment in animal labor, in days of service
X 4 = investment in general expenses, in NCr$
The optimum levels of use by factor show us that the hand labor, animal labor, and general expenses factors, canhave their presentuse increased by 354%, 2.283% and 12% respectively, while the present use of the land factor ought to be reduced of 68%.
When the amount of hand labor is fixed at 611,4 days-man, the optimum partial combination of the factor considered gave a profit of NCr$ 6. 243,00. Fixing the land factor at 83,5 ha the optimum partial combinations of the factors resulted in a loss of NCr$ 80, 82 the optimum partial combinations of the factor resulted in a profit of NCr$ 55.902, 97. Among the alternations found, the one which seems most fruitful is that which produces a profit of NCr$ 6.243, 00.
An optimum combination of available resources was tried, beginning with the model used. However the results found were not satisfatory due to their magnitudes.
The results and conclusions found in this work, with respect to the factors animal labor and general expenses, are practically the same as found in the "Meia Ponte" zone as found by GOMEZ (4).
However those obtained for the factors of hand labor and land are contradictory.
