Resumo

The analysis of aggregate supply relationships might play a significant role in providing a basis for price policy favoring agricultural producers.

The objectives of the present supply study may be summarized as follows: a) to improve understanding of the mechanism of aggregate production response, b) to improve predictions of aggregate production changes, c) to improve the effectiveness of policies affecting aggregate supply, and d) to improve the understanding of the impact of programs of imports, exports, taxation, and incentives on the aggregate agricultural production.

This research involved the estimation of a production function using crosssectional data from farm producers to determine an aggregate supply function. The estimated supply equation shows that for the average values of variables: Py (variable imput price) and X1 (fixed costs, with P1 = Cr$1.06 and X1 = Cr$12.923,79), the price-elasticity of aggregate agricultural supply was equal to 3,16. This means that a 1% increase in average agricultural prices «ceteris paribus», would result in an increase in the total farm production of about 3,2% in the short run.
