Efeitos de espaçamentos entre e dentro das fileiras de plantio sobre duas variedades de soja, em Viçosa e Capinóp

Resumo

In 1969/70 the effect ofspacing between rows and the distance between plants within the row on height of first pod, plant height, lodging, yield, seed size, and seed quality was studied to determinate soybean variety "Viçoja" at Viçosa and Capinópolis and the indeterminate soybean variety "LAC-2" at Viçosa.

In variety 'Viçoja' at Viçosa height of first pod and plant height were satisfactory for all row widths and plant spacings within the row, but plants did not completely cover the space between rows when 80 cm apart. Lodging was excessive in rows 20 cm or 40 cm apart with 15-35 plants/m and even in rows 60 cm apart with 30 and 35 plants/m. The highest yield was in rows 40-80 cm apart with 15-25 plants/m. All factors considered, 60 cm between rows with 15-25 plants/m was the most favorable spacing for this variety at Viçosa,

In the variety 'IAC 2' height of first pod and plant height were less influenced by row width and distance between plants in the row. Yield was highest with 14-25 plants/m in rows 60- 100 em apart. The plants were taller than desirable at all spacings and lodging was excessive with more than 25 plants/m or in rows closer than 80 cm apart, making the optimum row spacing 80-100 cm because of this lodging.

At Capinópolis the variety 'Vigoja' was short at all row widths and plant spacings. Undesirable lodging occurred only in rows 20 cm apart or with 28 and 29 plants/m in rows 40 and 60 cm apart. The variety 'Vigoja' was not well adapted at Capinópolis, although the yield was higher there than at Vi- cosa. The plants flowered too early at that latitude and as a result were too short and the lower pods too close to the ground to permit mechanical harvest.

There was a tendency toward produétion of larger and better quality seed at the spacings that did not result in excessive lodging.
