Análise econômica da aplicação de nitrogênio e fósforo na cultura do milho no município de Barra Mansa, estado do Rio de Janeiro

Underdeloped countries are faced with the widespread problem of rapid population growth. Brazil,whose population is increasing at the rate of 3 percent per year, is no exception. New methods of increasing food supplier must therefore be givem the highest priorities. 

Technical progress is an important method by which Brazilian agriculture can increase productivity to meet the increased demand for agricultural products.

The objective of this study was to determine the economic levels of nitrogen and phosphorus usage in corn (Zea mays L.) prodution in the municipio of Barra Mansa, Rio de Janeiro. The method of minimum least squares was used in ajusting the quadratic equation to the experimental data. Utilizing prices cunent at the time of the experiment, the highest level of production was obtained wing 160 kilograms of nitrogen/hectare and 50 kilograms of phophorus/hectare. At this fertlizer level productin was 5,431 kilograms/hectare.

The application of these fertilizer levels, when applied under actual farming conditions, cannot give results identical to those obtained in this experiment. Neverthless, this data is a safe guide for good fertilization.
