Abstract

In this paper the author describes the Paravertebral Lumbar Anesthesia technique introduced by J. Farquharson in bovine laparotomy and rumenetomy. He reports his observations about the technique followed by J. Farquharson and Formston for spinal nerves bloking. He presents his observations and indications about its use in large and smail ruminants. At last he presents the following conclusions:

  1. Paravertebral lumbar anesthesia is the most helpful method for surveing laparotomy are surgery of the abdominal and pelvic organs through the paralumbar fossa.
  2. It permits to accomplish operations on standing animals without any addicional anesthesia or restraint.
  3. It shows the same advantages for large and small ruminants.
  4. Formston’s technique is the most indicated one for the lumbar nerve bloking.
  5. It's an economical, easy to be run and efficient method.
  6. The author has not observed any fail on paravertebral lumbar anesthesia runned in twenty three animals.
