The microsporogenous tissue of the cacao clone 'Pimenta' undergoes several degrees of degeneration, beginning before its differentiation and lasting until after the formation of microsporophytes in such a manner that no pollen is produced.
The ovules do not form an ambryo sac, this being replaced by parenchyma cells, Accordingly, the integuments, nucellus etc, are lost, being transformed into parenchyma tissue that later with the endocarp parenchyma to form a single mass of tissue.
When this transformation is achieved, the fruit buds measeure approximately 8 to 10 mm in diameter by 15 to 20mm in length and are aborted.
