Ananatomic study was made of the union of shield budding of the peachtree (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch); the cultivar "Solta-Caroço" was used asthe stock andthe cultivar "Rei-da-Conserva", as the bud. Two types of shield budding were used: a) between the buds and b) on the bud, at the different regions of the stock plant.
Two days after budding, a callus was formed inthe region of the cambiumphloem. This callus was observed with much more intensity in the cortical parenchyma; some callus was also noted in the periphery ofthe bud, which contributed greatly tothe formation of the union. This phenomenon reduced substantively the time required for the formation of the union. Because ofthis, plants which received the 'mthe bud' treatment fumished.
Nursery stock in a relatively shorter time than the 'between the buds' treatment.
