Comportamento de variedades de soja, quanto à composição química das sementes, em Viçosa e Capinópolis, Minas Gerais

This study was meant to supply a complementary criterion for the selection of soybeans based on the chemical composition of the seeds. The experiments were carried out in Viçosa and Capinópolis, Minas Gerais, using 14 varieties. The results obtained permit the following statements:
a) Seeds grown in Capinópolis contained higher levels of crude protein.
b) Varieties 'Davis' in Viçosa, and 'Hardee' in Capinópolis were the highest in oil content c) Varieties 'M-5' and 'M-3' had the highest crude protein content at Viçosa and Capindpolis, respectively.
d) The highest iodine value was obtained with the variety ‘Industrial’, which also had a high oil content.
e) 0il and crude protein levels showed a certain negative relationship.
