Estrutura da oferta de arroz no município de Santarém e no Estado do Pará

The objectives of this study were to specify and evaluate the effects of selected variables on the production of rice in the município of Santarém and in eight other areas of Pará utilizing time series data estimate supply.
The estimated equations were fitted by the orthodox least squares method.
Among the principal results and conclusions, the following are outstanding:
The production response function of the municipio of Santarém and of the State of Para explained about 89 and 91 percent of the variations in rice production, respectively.
The estimated elasticity of supply in the short and long runs oscillate between 0.3 and 1.5, and 0.3 and 0.5, respectively, in the municipio of Santarém and Para. From this it is concluded that the rice producers of Santarém and Pará react directly and substantialy to variations in product price.
The coefficient of production adjustment varied around 0.2 and 06, respectively, for Santarém and Para.
There seems to exist complementary relations between the production of rice and com and some degree of competition between rice and cassava. The producers of rice also react in different ways to variations in the prices of corn and cassava
