Resumo

The percentages of protein and lysine of normal and mutant maize endosperms were determined from ears segregating for du-2 and from ears of five normal inbreds and their respective fla counterparts. The purpose was to verify whether or not those mutants affect the protein and lysine contents of the endosperm. The results indicate that the protein and lysine contents of dull-2 and floury-a endosperms are very similar to those of normal endosperms. The mutants, thus, do not seem to be useful in breeding for better protein quality.
