Resumo

Leaves of jequeri (Solanum juciri Mart) were analyzed with regard to their nutritive value. The crude and real protein contents were 34.4 and 21.3%, respecti- vely. Amino acid composition was comparable to FAO reference protein * concerning essential amino acids, except for a lower methionine content. The water soluble nitrogen fraction was shown to consist mainly of free amino acids, peptides, amides and albumins.

Based on chemical analysis, it was concluded that leaves of jequeri are rich in protein of good quality and could be a potential source of protein for animal feeding and human consumption.
