Anatomia do pericarpo de híbridos entre a introdução "Alcobaça" e alguns cultivares de tomateiro (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill)

Anatomical studies were conducted on the pericarp tissue of two bilocular tomato varieties ('Miguel Pereira' and 'São Sebastião'), two multilocular varieties ('Manapal' and 'Pearson VF6') and the reciprocal hybrids of these varieties with the variety 'Alcobaça’.
The objective was to determine if the type of structure associated with 'Alcobaça' variety predominated in the F1 hybrids. An attempt was made to correlate the type of structure with post harvest handling qualities of the fruits. Fully developed green fruits were used to compare the epicarp structure.
Differences were observed in the general form of the fruit wall and the type of thickening of the radial walls of the cells. Variations in the epicarp structure were observed in the reciprocal hybrids but, they did not consistently exhibit the type of structure characteristic to the 'Alcobaça' variety.
