Resumen

The effects of the genes ae, bt1, bta, bta, du, fi1, f, h, 03, shi, su1, sug and wr, and their double-mutant combinations with 02 and fI3 on the accumulation of reducing sugars, sucrose and water-soluble polysaccharides (WSP) in the endosperm of maize were investigated. With the exception of fIj and h, all single mutants accumulated more reducing sugars and sucrose than normal. Opaque-2 tended to increase reducing sugars and sucrose when combined with the other genes. Exceptions were the genotypes aeog and wzog, which decreased reducing sugars. and bt402, which reduced sucrose content, The gene fI3 interacted with the other genes (except 02 and su1) causing drastic increases 1n reducing sugars and sucrose.
