Resumo

Airdryand ground samples of 2-month-old guatemala grass (Tripsacum fasciculatum Trin) were utilized in a preliminary test to study the extraction time of cellulose in cupriethilene diamine, and to evaluate the precision of the method. The standard deviation and coefficient of variation observed were 2.87 and 3. 48 percent, respectively.

Ina second test the solubility of cellulose incupriethilene diamine was determined for molassesgrass (Melinis minutiflora Beauv), pangolagrass (Digitaria decumbens Stent) and sempre-verde grass (Panicum maximum Jacqvar.Gongylodes Doell) at the ages of 2, 4,6 and 8 months. The win vivos dry matter digestibility was determined previously.

Regression and correlation analyses of the data gav the following results; for each grass:

molassesgrass Y = -  33.2 ≠ 1. 16X;  r = 0.999

pangolagrass Y = - 110.6 ≠ 2.29X; r = 0.992

sempre-verdegrass Y = - 2.6 ≠ 0.70X; r = 0.986

Where Y and X refer to "in vivo" drymatter digestibility and cellulose solubility in cupriethilene diamine, respectively.
