Efeito do milho opaco-2 sobre produção de ovos e coloração de gemas

Resumo

Anexperiment was conducted with 160 white leghorntype hens to compare the feeding value of opaque-2 corn with the normal corn for egg production. 

The hens fed opaque-2 showed higher egg production, higher feed consumption and better feed efficiency.

The effect of opague-2 on egg yolk color was also studied. The egg yolks were graded for color acording to the potassium dichromate method of visual color scoring.

The opaque-2 corn produced pale egg yolks. The rami hay, used at the levelof 4 percentofthe diets,wasvery effective in recovering the orange-yellow color of the egg yolks.

The addition of a comercial source of xanthophyllto the diet of opaque-2 was not sufficient to recover the yellow color ofthe egg yolks when compared to the levelin the eggs produced by hens fed normal corn. The potassium dichromate method of visual color scoring of egg yolk was very satisfactory.
