Resumo

The purpose ofthis experiment was to study the effects of different levels of defatted rice bran and the addition of iodine to a corn and soybean meal ration on growing pullets. This experiment consisted of two periods. During the first period , from 9 to 20 weeks of age,40 pullets were assigned to each of6 treatments with 5 replicates per treatment, The tretment levels were: O(plus 3000 ppm iodine), 0, 15, 30, 45, 60% defatted rice bran. The iodine treatment was intiated at 17 weeks of age. During the second period from 21 to 29 weeks, all pullets received abalanced ration of corn, wheat mealand soybean meal,

The resalts obtained permit the following conclusions:

a - Sexual maturity was not affected by any level of defatted rice bran as observed during the second period.

b - With increasing levels of defatted rice bran, consumption increased but feed conversion and growth rate decreased.

c - The levels of defatted rice bran, included in growth rations during first period, had no effect no laying during second period,

d - Increasing levels of defatted rice bran resulted in lower ration cost. The lowest cost per pullet (Cr$ 0, 25) was obtained with the 60% defatted rice bran ration.

e - The amount of iodine (3000 ppm) included from 17to 2 weeks did not affect sexual maturity.
