Elasticidade de oferta de ovos e demanda de insumos avícolas no estado do Amazonas

Resumo

It is believed that a better understanding of the relatio- ships among production response, price incentives and farm credit would be of real value in developing public policies in these areas and at the same time guarantee egg producers an income in the state of Amazonas and a supply of food for the growing population of Manaus. An empirical analysis of supply response could represent a significant contribution to the development of these policies.

The objectives of this supply function study could be summa- rized as follows: (a) to improve understanding of the mechanism of eggs production response, (b) improve predictions of eggs production changes, (c) improve the effectiveness of policies affecting eggs supply, and (d) improve the understanding of the impact of programs of importation, exportation, taxation, and incentiveson eggs production and income.

This research involved the estimation of a production function using cross-sectional data from egg producers to determine algebraically a supply function.

The estimated supply equation shows at the average values for variables P2, variable inputs prices and xj, fixed imputs, (Pz = Cr$ 1,14 and x; = Cr$ 5,448.55), a supply elasticity for eggs of aproximately 11.5 or, in other words, a one percent increase in the price of eggs "ceteris paribus" will generate a 12% increase in egg production in the Manaus market in the short-run.

The price-elasticity of demand for outlay capital in poultry enterprises was found to be of the order of 12.5. That is to say that a one percent change in the cost of money "ceteris paribus",would cause about a 13% change in the opposite direction in the amount of money procured, which would influence pro- duction substantially.

These research results suggest that regional livestock incentive programs, such as PROTERRA, could have a substantial impact on the supply of eggs in Amazonas, since restrictions as an ownership requirement on the availability of credit, which affect a large part of the poultry producers, would be eliminated.
