Resumo

The effect of three different environmental temperatures on the water and feed intakes, rectal temperature and respiratory rhythm was studied with sheep. 

Four male growing sheep were kept in a metabolism cage inside an environmental cabinet: The animals were fed on ground ear corn and soybean meal. The environmental temperatures studied were: 10-150C (Treatment A), 20-250C (Treatment B) and 30-350C (Treatment C).

It was found that an increase in the ambient temperature resulted in significant increase (P < 0,05) in the respiratory rhythm. High rectal temperature (P < 0,05) was observed when the animals were kept at 30-350C, but the values were within the normal range. Water intake was significantly higher (P < 0,05) at the highest temperature studied (30-350C). Feed intake was significantly (P < 0,05) higher at the lowest temperature used 10-150C).
