Comparação de processos de enxertia na propagação do abacateiro (Persea americana Miller)

Two experiments were carried out at Viçosa, Minas Gerais, to determine which method, of budding or grafting, applied
to avocado would produce best results. The cultivar "Itzamna" was used as the scion and various varieties were used as the stock.
The following treatments were used in the first experiment: cleft grafting, whip-and-tongue grafting, shield budding, side rind grafting and veneer grafting. In the second experiment the following treatments were applied: cleft grafting, whip-and-tongue grafting and whip grafting.
In all treatments polyethylene film was used as tying material and, with the exception ofthe buddings, in all graftings the scion was protected with a transparent polyethylene bag.
A piece of cardboard carton was usedto shade the scion, at the point of grafting in the crown, in the first experiment, and a small bamboo basket in the second experiment.
The best treatments were: the cleft grafting, the whip-and-tongue grafting, and the whip grafting. Nevertheless, the cleft grafting is recommended, due to the simplicity of the technique
