The objective of this study was to determine the effect of furrow irrigation on the growth and production of the banana matrix plant (Musa cavendishii Lambert) cv. "Nanicão".
The treatments were as follows:
1. Treatment 75 - water applied when the soil water available reached 75 per cent;
2. Treatment 50 - water applied when the soil water available reached 50 per cent;
3. Treatment 25 - water applied when the soil water available reached 25 per cent; and
4. Treatment O - no irrigation.
The response to soil moisture available was linear in terms of hands and fruits per bunch and cubic in terms of days from planting to harvesting time. There was a quadratic relationshyp between the percentage of soil moisture available and the weigt of bunches and fruit in kilograms per hectare.
